They bought youtube for $1.65 Billion in stock.

My previous entry about Svens bet was causing a real high load on modprobe. Google is listing this blog entry at the top of the ranking so everyone is clicking it. This caused apache to produce ~100K log entries per minte. I am mod_rewriting this site now to /goaway.txt.
Just if you wondered why the site was so terrible slow.

Google moon

Google has included orininal NASA images into Google maps to honor the first moon landing in 1969.

It is very nice especially because if you try the highest zoom level the moon looks like a yellow cheese.
BTW: It is a part of the Google Copernicus Hosting Environment and Experiment in Search Engineering

Pimp your bookmark handling

Firefox allows the use of so called "smart bookmarks".

With smart bookmarks you can make a bookmark, specify a placeholder and a keyword.
You can now type the keyword with a query string in the address bar and then...magic
Example:

The %s will be abbriviated with the specified query string.
With this example you can type bts $package in the address line and firefox will load:
http://bugs.debian.org/$package

Another usefull example is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%s

This will query wikipedia and will go to the description page.

For search queries there is also the nice plugin ConQuery.
